Motonation and Spidi are parting ways, with Motonation no longer distributing the Spidi brand in the United States.
"While Spidi is one of the pre-eminent brands in motorcycling and at first seemed like a natural fit for Motonation, time has shown that Motonation and Spidi have different visions as to how the Spidi brand should be presented in the U.S. market," says Bill Berroth, president, Motonation. "In the end, Motonation was unwilling to compromise its marketing plan of committed partnerships with a limited number of select retailers who must follow trade guidelines combined with an aggressive promotional investment that enable high end lines grow in this competitive market."
"This change is necessary to allow additional growth for both companies in the U.S.," says Nicola Dalla Grana, president of Spidi Sport.
Spidi products will be available at the moment through Motonation's stock only, until the new Spidi distribution strategy is announced.
Motonation's plan going forward?
"While unfortunately Motonation will be dropping the Spidi line from our collection our business and relationships with Sidi and Vemar remain stronger than ever," Berroth says. "Even in this climate of a very, very weak U.S. dollar, Motonation is maintaining profitability and growth.
"We see the approaching 2009 season as one where Motonation can continue its strong growth with the Sidi brand as well as focus increased efforts on the Vemar brand in order to take advantage of the openings in the U.S. market left by other European brands that are going through some restructuring at this time."
