WASHINGTON, D.C. - Motovan Corp. is recalling certain Zox Old School motorcycle helmets, size XL, manufactured in December 2008

The potential number of units affected is 198.

During testing, the affected helmets failed to conform to the impact attenuation and penetration requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 218, “Motorcycle Helmets.” Motovan suspects the helmet lacks the proper material thickness.

By wearing a noncompliant helmet, the user may not be adequately protected in the event of a crash, the agency stated.

Because Motovan has records of the affected helmet’s owners, the company will attempt to notify owners via motorcycle consumer magazines. The remedy for this recall campaign (No. 13E029000) is still under development.
