British Columbia has instituted new ATV regulations to improve safety and environmental protections.
Wildlife advocates applaud the new rules, which include purchasing a registration and paying a license fee at the time of purchase. A helmet law is also part of the new regs.
"New standards for mufflers will minimize the noise impact on wildlife and spark arrestors will reduce the risk of forest fires. Additional measures to designate crossings on public roads will mean [off road vehicle] riders can connect with their communities and our world class trail network," provincial cabinet minister Kevin Krueger told the Terrace Standard, which also published a full list of the new rules.
The new rules expand the definition of “off-road vehicle” to include ATVs and dirt bikes, which will let local governments to enact bylaws governing them.
