New Jersey mechanic launches mobile motorcycle repair business

A collapsing garage building forced owner Larry Hagberg to take his service business on the road. He bought a trailer and in March launched Mobile Motorcycle Repair in northern New Jersey.

The biggest hurdle to the business has been getting vendors, suppliers and insurers to recognize a business that does not have a fixed address. "Anytime I'm recognized by a supplier, it is phenomenal," he said.

Hagberg told NorthJersey.com that his business model focuses on the new way to contact customers -- by bringing the business to them. "We want our food delivered. We want dealerships to pick up our cars. We want people coming to us to detail our cars," he explained.

Using the tools and diagnostic machines he acquired running a shop in Emerson N.J., Hagberg has built a clientele of about 150 home customers. He works in Bergen, Passaic and Morris counties. Sometimes his visits lead to teachable moments.

"I don't have a problem teaching someone who wants to learn," he said. "You sometimes get that guy who says, 'Mind if I watch?' And I say, 'Sure, come on over.' "
