Riders will have a few extra days to enjoy the spring bike rally in Red River, N.M., this year, with a new schedule that extends the Memorial Day weekend event.
Vendors will be allowed to set up as early as Wednesday. May 25, and the event will run through Monday, May 30. Past rallies have run Friday through Monday morning.
Red River Chamber of Commerce events director Rebecca Sanchez told the Sangre de Christo NM Chronicle Ron Weathers, a rally photographer and member of the rally committee, encouraged the town to make the event more of a bike “week” than just a bike weekend.
“You still get your party crowd on the weekend,” Weathers says, “but you also get a different kind of rider who wants to visit the vendors, see the beautiful area. It’s more of a retiree demographic that doesn’t necessarily want to be part of the big party crowd.”
