LIBERTY, N.C. - A business built around servicing race teams will start the new year with a new home in Liberty.

City officials signed off on Billy Hardin’s request on behalf of Hardin LLC to open the shop, which he told the Liberty Town Board of Commissioners will repair high-speed racing motorcycles. Hardin had asked that a property be rezoned to accommodate his shop, to be operated by Jay Turner of Julian.

“Right now it’s going to be The Race Shop,” Turner told the Ashboro Courier-Tribune. “We manufacture, maintain and produce top fuel Harley-Davidson parts. This is the Richard Petty of motorcycles. It’s drag racing, 140 miles an hour.”

Turner the shop will repair motorcycles for four race teams — two from Vancouver, one from Amelia, La., and one from Richmond, Va. He did not say when the shop may open or how many people it would employ.
