PORTSMOUTH, N.H. – A new scooter rental business is aiming to get summer tourists out of their cars and scooting around downtown, beach and island destinations.

Scoot, in the city's downtown, has been open for only three weeks and is already catching on, owner Robert Marchewka told the Portsmouth Herald.

The business stocks about a dozen Honda Ruckus, Yamaha Zuma and Yamaha Vino scooters to cater to a variety of customers. Rates for the service are $25 for two hours, $40 for a half-day, $75 for a full day and $300 for a week. Helmets are included with the rentals.

"Scooters take you farther than your feet, faster than a bike, and to places you'd never see by car," he said.

As a local Realtor, Marchewka is running the business part time with help from family members.  He said this summer is a test run to see how well the scooter business does in Portsmouth.

"We'll feel out the market and work to get established," he said.
