McKenney Salinas Powersports of North Carolina has bought a longtime colleague’s dealership, Suzuki Kawasaki of Gastonia.
Terry Barnes, who owned Suzuki Kawasaki with brother Ronnie, told the http://www.gastongazette.com/news/mckenney-40297-kawasaki-suzuki.html>Gaston Gazette Ray McKenney approached them about buying the franchise and they were proud to sell it to him. Terry Barnes called McKenney a “good businessman and a good person.”
Suzuki-Kawasaki had 11 employees. Terry Barnes said McKenney has interviewed some of his staff for jobs. The McKenney Salinas dealership now carries the Suzuki, Kawasaki, and E-Ton brands along with Honda.
The Suzuki dealership has had three different sites since coming to the community in 1970. Recently, Terry Barnes told the newspaper, they’ve received several inquiries to sell or lease the lot, which is on prime commercial real estate just north of the I-85 interchange. The flagging economy made it the right decision, so the brothers sold their franchise to McKenney, who moved the inventory to his bike lot. He also owns several local car dealerships.
