CASTLE DONINGTON, United Kingdom - Norton Motorcycles announced it has received U.S. Environmental Protection Agency certification for its 2013 model-year Commando 961 series of motorcycles.

"Whilst this news may seem a bit boring and technical in nature, it is a major hurdle for a small specialty manufacturer and the first approval sought by the new Norton Motorcycles for the USA," the company said. "Finally, and critically important to Norton, is the California Air Resources Board review and approval which typically follows EPA certification by two or three months."

Norton announced that its UK-based factory in is ready to being production of the 2013 Commando 961 Cafe Racer, 961 Sport and 961 SE models for the U.S. and Canadian markets.
