STILLWATER, N.Y. – A powersports dealer in upstate New York is diving into a community plan to reopen Brown’s Beach, a popular swimming spot on Saratoga Lake.

Menneto Powersports of Clifton Park is putting the final touches on a contract with the city to operate the public beach and manage amenities there. Parties hope the beach will be open by July.

The dealer has a lot of latitude about how to manage the seven-acre property; however, the town expects to see a marina, a beach and concessions. A local restaurant has been chosen to manage food concessions.

“We’re taking it in good faith that they will offer numerous amenities to the residents,” Stillwater Supervisor Ed Kinowski told the Oneida Dispatch.

Brown’s Beach was a popular destination with public access to the lake’s water. The beach was closed in 2007. The town bought it last year for $4.1 million from a Saratoga Springs development company that had plans for a lakefront resort that never materialized.

Kinowski said he would like the beach eventually to be open 365 days a year to “take advantage of the ice, as well as the warm summer days — which hopefully we’ll be getting eventually.”

Menneto Powersports is an Indian, Polaris, Sea-Doo and Victory  and Yamaha dealer and sells Triton trailers as well.
