NYPD To Ride Electric

The New York Police Department says it plans to begin road testing four Vectrix electric scooters next month.

The 36,000-officer NYPD — which already uses more than 300 Piaggio and 100 Yamaha scooters — says it is seeking ways to reduce the environmental impact of its massive vehicle fleet. The department also uses hybrid vehicles, which can run on both gasoline and ethanol.

Rhode Island-based Vectrix has approached several big city police departments with its scooter.
