NEOSHO, Mo. – Here’s one way to get teenaged girls into a powersports store: Smith Family Powersports is hosting the Princess Project for four days this month.

The group collects formal dresses and distributes them to would-be prom queens.

Newton County high school students have four opportunities this month to try on and choose from the donated prom dresses, shoes and jewelry.

“Prom dresses are very expensive. This way, if we can provide the dress, that takes a big savings in someone's budget,” Debi Smith, an event organizer, told the Neosho Daily News. “There are so many girls that want to go and with the economy and families, if you have more than one girl even going, that is a great, great expense for some families."

The group will set up two or three dressing rooms and full-length mirrors at the store on event days. Students are invited to try on dresses and accessories from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 9, 23 and 30.
