The U.S. Forest Service is in some conservationists crosshairs over plans to build a new ORV trail in the Oregon Dunes National Recreation area.
The environmental groups filed a lawsuit Dec. 7 in U.S. District Court in Eugene.
Josh Laughlin of Cascadia Wildlands told The World newspaper the road would go right through a sensitive area that’s closed to vehicles under the recreation area’s management plan.
He says the proposed trail, which would link Coos County’s Riley Ranch campground north of North Bend with another parcel of county land that is open to ATV riding, would worsen the treat and damage to fragile plant communities.
The Forest Service declined comment.
