MADISON, Wis. – Alpinestars unveiled the Atem high-performance racing suit ($1,499 retail) this week to Parts Unlimited representatives during the distributor’s annual National Vendor Presentation.

The Atem is a high-performance, fully CE-certified (EN13595 Level 1) one-piece jewel offering class-leading protection for the street as well as the track. The suit is made of 1.3mm high-grade leather with reinforcements in critical impact zones, along with cuff adjustments and critical displacement perforated panels for improved ventilation.

Dynamic Friction Shield technology fuels the shoulder and knee protectors, race-proven in MotoGP and WSBK, according to the company. Other features: large accordion panels that facilitate movement, Aramidic stretch panels on sleeves for fit and feel, a removable security strap that keeps the jacket positioned in case of accident, chest pad compartments with PE padding, and multiple snap buttons to accommodate the company’s Bionic Back Protector.

The new Atem jacket retains flexibility and CE rating in sizes 52 to 58, and dealers should be aware that the jacket should fit “snug,” according to Alpinestars reps. Therefore a customer who usually wears a large in a shirt will want to try on the medium, they cautioned. The jacket retails for $699.95.

The Tech ST Gore-Tex jacket, at $899.95 retail, is for the serious rider – the one who gladly starts out in the rain, let alone being caught up in it. It’s a three-layer garment with ventilation – two front air intake zip vents and two rear air exhaust zip vents – rear shoulder and elbow accordion stretch panels, a removable external Windstopper collar that covers the rider from the nose down, and enhanced visibility, among other features. Matching pants are available for $799, said Alpinestars reps.

To help dealers sell the “I want” products above, Alpinestars this fall also comes out with several “I need” jackets in the $200-plus range. These jackets offer a race look in a textile (600 denier), waterproof version, complete with chest and back protection and removable liners. The Gunner waterproof jacket ($229 retail), for example, has CE-certified elbow and shoulder protectors, chest and back protector compartments with PE comfort padding (CE Bio Armor is an added option) with two front zipped vents and a back exhaust zipped vent.
