A Talladega County, Ala., jury has convicted a paranoid schitzophrenic former motorcycle mechanic of murdering the owner of the shop where he worked in 2006.
Fred Allen-Walker admitted shooting boss Gerry Harrell at Harrell's shop, Motorcycle Sports, in Oxford on Valentine's Day 2006. But he testified that in his delusional state, he believed God had ordered him to do it for the U.S. Marshal’s Service, according to the Daily Home newspaper.
He is scheduled for sentencing in April.
According to the newspaper, both sides agreed Walker left his home in Heflin on the morning of the killing, went to see his chiropractor, then went to work. After finding out two of Harrell’s children who also worked in the shop were out sick that day, Walker shot Harrell in the back of the head with a 9 mm handgun in front of at least two witnesses. He then apologized, walked to his car to get a briefcase, and called the U.S. Marshal Service in Washington, D.C.
