A North Dakota man has come up with a unique idea for launching his motorcycle shop: He bought a drag strip.
Charlie McCann, 52, a Fargo auto body and engine specialist, races motorcycles and has dreamed of opening his own shop. He started racing on the Interstate Dragways track in Glyndon four years ago. Earlier this year he bought it and renamed the course Top End Dragways.
“I thought, ‘What the heck? What better place to have a bike shop than right next to the drag strip?’ ” he told the Detroit Lakes Tribune.
McCann has 15 events scheduled for the summer, up from the five it hosted last year. He’s installed a new speaker system and is cleaning the track to improve traction. Next step, Plan A: open a motorcycle shop there.
