LAFAYETTE, ind. – Lafayette has a new used powersports vehicle and service business to fill the void left by other shops in the area that have since closed.
After turns as general manager at two different bike shops, J.D. Corey opened Power Sports of Lafayette Inc. in a 12,000 sq. ft. shop with a rustic design and highway frontage.
Cathy Case, office manager, told the Journal and Courier the shop works on ATVs, dirt bikes and motorcycles. It also offers winter storage, riding gear and a custom embroidery service.
“It’s not just floor displays,” Case said. “We’re more personalized.”
The shop opened in June and has seen steady sales since, Case said. Corey attributes part of the shop’s early success to gas prices.
“It’s definitely coming around,” he said. “With the amount you pay to fill up your truck, you can practically make your bike payment.”
For now the shop handles used vehicles, parts and repairs for Yamaha, Suzuki, Harley-Davidson, Honda and Polaris. Corey said he hopes to progress to new bike sales.
