LAUREL, Md. -- Used vehicle auction prices are dropping from their June peak, but tumbling at a rate faster than expected, according to the latest Black Book monthly report.

"While bike segments usually begin to fall off in value at this time of year, these declines are roughly double what we normally see," said Ricky Beggs, editorial director for Black Book.

Cruisers took the biggest dip, with prices down 6.2 percent. Street bike prices dropped 5.1 percent. Dual sports dropped 4.6 percent, and off-road bikes decreased 6.1 percent.

Scooter prices fell as well, down 6 percent, and ATVs and utility vehicles, which typically rise in price nearing autumn, fell 3.1 and 2.4 percent, respectively.

Personal watercraft prices decreased 0.4 percent, and should continue to trend downward throughout the year. On the other hand, snowmobile prices are up 0.5 percent as the winter season looms.
