Not every business is willing to give an ex-con a break. But Renegade Harley-Davidson, a Top 100 Dealer in Alexandria, La., is teaming with a local business for an event celebrating the rehabilitation and rejoining society.
The dealership has planned the March 17 Faces of Freedom rally, which will feature a motorcycle ride, antique cars, live music, food and craft vendors, with Re-Entry Solutions, a company that helps ex-cons, returning soldiers and others find jobs and get back into society.
"Many people who return from incarceration have a hard time with employment, and they have a hard time finding employment because people remember the bad," center programs coordinator Candy Christophe told the Town Talk. "There's not enough recognition for them to know that a change process occurred."
The Freedom Ride, led by Louisiana Public Safety and Corrections Secretary James Le Blanc, will depart Renegade Harley-Davidson at 9 a.m. The antique car show will follow at 11 a.m., and a ceremony featuring local municipalities and Gov. Bobby Jindal's office proclaiming the last week of March as Successful Re-Entry Awareness Week will be held at 2:30 p.m. Brad Randell & The Zydeco Ballers will provide live music from 1 to 5 p.m.
