Ride in Peace: Dereck Chaput of Twisted Throttle

LEDYARD, Conn. - The industry is mourning the loss of Dereck "Chappy" Chaput who died in an accident while riding earlier this week. Chaput, 28, was the customer service manager at Twisted Throttle.

The crew at Rhode Island-based Twisted Throttle announced that they'd be closing early on Friday Aug. 24, and all day on Saturday Aug. 25, to celebrate Chaput's life.

Posted on the company's Facebook fan page is this message, "Twisted Throttle suffered a great loss with the passing of our friend and coworker, Dereck Chaput. Dereck was a driving force behind the company as our customer service manager. He will be greatly missed. We want to express our deepest condolences to family."

Chaput was killed when his motorcycle collided with a truck in an intersection along Route 184 in Groton, Conn. A story on the Nashua Telegraph site reports that police are still investigating the accident.

According to information posted by the Anctil-Rochette & Son funeral home, Chaput is survived by his wife, Christine Hamelin-Chaput; parents, Daniel and Mary; sister, Audra; brother and sister-in-law, Steven and Gail Lamby; in-laws, Joseph and Mary Hamelin; sisters-in-law, Susan Hamelin and Stephanie Hamelin; nephew, Brendan Lamby; and niece, Gianna Lamby.

Services will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.  Friday, Aug. 24. in the Anctil-Rochette & Son Funeral Home, 21 Kinsley St., Nashua, N.H.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting memorial contributions be sent to Dr. Christine Hamelin-Chaput. These donations will be sent to a charity of the family’s choice in Dereck’s name.
