John Wyckoff, founder of Intersport Fashion West and powersports industry consultant, sales trainer, author and motivational speaker, died May 11 following a long illness. He was 73.
He was also the author of two editions of Mind Your Own Business, a guide to managing powersports dealerships, and wrote articles on retailing for Small Business Trends and Dealership University.
Wyckoff started his career working as a mechanic, parts manager and storeowner. He went on to work as a sales rep and then as director of marketing for Drag Specialties. He later founded IFW and served as its chairman. The company was sold in 2003 to aerospace giant Fairchild.
Wyckoff served on the AMA's board of directors and on the Motorcycle Industry Council's aftermarket committee. He was honored with Key Award by the MIC in 1990, joining only six other recipients recognized for their industry efforts. In 2005 he was given the Lifetime Achievement Award during the V-Twin Expo's Excellence in Motorcycling Awards.
Wyckoff's consulting clients included ADP Lightspeed, BMW, Harley-Davidson, Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki and Yamaha.
Wyckoff is survived by his wife of 53 years, Marjorie; his daughter, Laurel; a daughter-in-law, Colleen; a son-in-law, Joseph Franklin; and two sisters, Judith Faugno and Beverly Dornbusch.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., June 11 at the Old San Ysidro Church, 804 Old Church Road , Corrales , N.M. Those planning on attending should RSVP to email@example.com by June 4.
