ANOTHER ZERO EMISSIONS off-road motorcycle comes in the form of the Zero X, a bike marketed by Zero Motorcycles of Scotts Valley, Calif.
Weighing only 140 pounds and powered by lithium ion cells that deliver 300 watts, or 20 hp, the Zero X accelerates from 0-30 mph in under 2 seconds and has been tested on 65-foot jumps. In fact, founders say it delivers performance similar to a 250cc gas powered off-road motorcycle.
Zero Motorcycles founder and Chief Technical Officer Neal Saiki designed the Zero X after years of designing world-class mountain bikes for Santa Cruz, Mountain Cycle and Haro. Earlier in his career, Saiki worked as a project manager at NASA developing high altitude research vehicles. While he was in college, he set a world aviation record for creating the first successful human-powered helicopter.
The Zero X retails for $7,500.

Offering performance similar to a 250cc gas powered off-road motorcycle, the battery-powered Zero X off-road motorcycle delivers 20 hp and weighs only 140 pounds.
