MIDDLEVILLE, Mich. – The owners of a repair and custom shop lost their business and their home at the same time when snow and ice collapsed their roof during a late February storm.

The couple was uninsured. They told local reporters that they are hoping to rebuild after the loss of a rare property that had accommodated both home and Herrera’s Custom Iron Werks for the last six years.

"It's kind of heartbreaking. All this time I've spent building it and you know, that quick -- boom, wiped out," owner Chris Hererra told WWMT.

The couple scrambled to pull out clients’ motorcycles and whatever else they could, but a Jaguar auto, tools, equipment and more were still inside when the roof collapsed a day and a half later. The sides of the building buckled in the collapse.

"It's unreal. You never expect everything to crash in on you at one second, you got nowhere to go," said Hodgens. Hererra is looking for an affordable shop space or possible partnership, according to the shop’s Facebook page.
