S&S Cycle has announced that it has redesigned its Big Fin cylinders for late-model Harley-Davidsons (1999 to present). The company claims that improvements made are both cosmetic and functional.
The cylinders now resemble stock cylinders, to better match the bikes. "Back at the turn of the century, S&S designed some new cylinders which were mainly intended for our own T-Series engines,” said Justin Bramstedt, the company’s late-model product line manager. “It wasn't as important that they looked entirely stock. … Today, the emphasis is less on complete engines than it is on upgrading an existing Harley-Davidson engine. This makes it a lot more important that the parts have a stock look."
Cylinders are powdercoated in black, or silver, which match the stock engines. In addition, the fins in the pushrod relief of the cylinders have been extended to provide additional cooling, the company says. A sturdier aluminum material provides more support.
