Co-owner Wade Culbertson sent a letter to customers informing them of the change and letting them know that Bossier City Harley-Davidson will honor commitments made by the Shreveport store, which will close Feb. 27. The closure will mean 10 layoffs.
Culbertson cited corporate’s efforts to rein in shipments and weed out the dealer network.
Because HOG bylaws state that each HOG group must be anchored at a dealership and carry the name of its city, the Shreveport group will also have to merge with Bossier City.
"Our sales have been down as a company, but not as much as the whole nation. Based on what Harley was planning to send us, there was no way we could afford both dealerships," Dean Barberio, operations manager at Bossier City Harley-Davidson, told the Shreveport Times.
