Space Coast Harley-Davidson will hold a special Mother’s Day event this weekend: a drive to find a bone marrow donor for a 15-year-old stricken with acute myeloid leukemia.
Josh Lownes was diagnosed in January. The family has been looking for a donor since, but hasn’t found one. Meanwhile mom Donna Lownes stays with Josh at Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children, while his dad cares for the couple's other three children at home, according to Florida Today.
Kaytlyn Delaporte, Josh's friend at Southwest Middle School in Palm Bay, together with her mom, Holli, partnered with DKMS, the world's largest bone marrow donor center, to organize the drive Saturday at the Palm Bay dealership.
The drive at Space Coast Harley-Davidson begins with a poker run at 8 a.m. The event also includes prizes, food and entertainment. From noon to 5 p.m., staff from DKMS will register prospective donors.
