Knott County, Ky.’s Spring Ground Pounding is growing up, gaining corporate sponsors and national media coverage that are helping their event to grow.
Sponsors including Kawasaki have spent more than $80,000 to bring in riders and provide merchandise for the visitors, who were expected to stream into the area from near and far for the weekend trail-riding event.
"It's pretty exciting that we have these national organizations. Toyota and Can-Am have been some major sponsors of the event for us. So to have that kind of sponsorship for Knott County, Kentucky is pretty special," Knott County Judge Executive Randy Thompson told WKYT.
Local authorities are promoting safe riding at the event.
"Just wear the gear, and stay off the roads, and avoid drinking and riding impaired. if you can do those three things most people are gonna stay nice and safe and responsible while they're out there riding" Tim Cody from the ATV Training Center says.
The weekend ride and activities also offer a preview of a 200-plus-mile trail system the county plans to open by next spring.
