Sturgis City Council sets rally vendor rules

The Sturgis City Council has approved vendor rules for this years’ motorcycle rally, including setup and breakdown times and a 30-day limit on temporary structures.

Vendors will have seven days before the rally to set up their tents and four days to take them down afterward under an ordinance the council approved this week. The time limit is set as the seven days prior to the vendor's permit to vend begins.

Vendors also have only four days to take down their tents after their permits expire, and may not sell their wares except on the dates on their permits.

The ordinance is a reprieve for vendors, who might have been given just 48 hours before and after the rally under an earlier draft.

Property owners are responsible for enforcing the ordinance, according to the Rapid City Journal, and there’s a 30-day limit for temporary structures.

Vendors may buy two 12-day vendor permits, but the 30-day structure limit will prevail, Mayor Maury LaRue says.
