Vancouver’s year-old Sturgis North motorcycle rally already may be moving to a new site.
The festival’s organizers are looking to move the event to Spallumcheen’s Motoplex Speedway this summer. The inaugural rally was held in Salmon Arm in 2011. Sturgis North president Ray Sasseville made a presentation to the Armstrong council Monday. “He mentioned that it was ‘99.9 per cent sure’ they were moving to the speedway, they were just waiting for confirmation,” Armstrong Councilman Paul Britton told the Salmon Arm Observer.
Sasseville declined to comment further to the newspaper, but Britton said the organizer admits the rally had financial problems in its first year.
“He said he was going to make amends with this year’s program to try and pay those people off,” Britton says. “He said the event owed around $40,000.”
The rally is tentatively scheduled for July 18 to 22.
