When customers return vehicles, dealers sometimes get more than they bargained for. And sometimes the customer does, too.
A man returned his motor scooter to a New Rochelle, N.Y. Yamaha dealer because he couldn’t keep up payments left something else behind: a gun in the storage bin under the seat.
The Westchester district attorney's office said April 9 that 35-year-old Demetrius Williams of New Rochelle was found guilty of criminal weapon possession, according to the Wall Street Journal. Prosecutors say Williams took the scooter back to the dealer last May 6. A dealership employee called police later that day to report finding the gun in the compartment. Police said it was an unlicensed semi-automatic 9mm handgun.
Williams faces up to five to 15 years in prison.
