Suzuki Anticipates Mixed Markets In Fiscal '08

Suzuki Motor Corp. expects sales of approximately 3,602,000 motorcycles in fiscal 2008, up 11 percent from 3,249,000 units in 2007. However, visions of growth are being reserved for blossoming markets in Asia and India — the company, which ends its fiscal year March 31, expects its motorcycle, scooter and ATV sales in North America to dip 17 percent to 163,000 units.

In a statement released today, Suzuki leadership says higher material costs and a slowing global economy, primarily stemming from issues in the U.S., pose concerns.

Suzuki produces the majority of its motorcycles in facilities outside of Japan — the company expects to export about 342,000 two-wheelers from Japan this fiscal year.
