Japan's Suzuki Motor Corp. says worldwide motorcycle sales for its year ended March 31 totaled 3.34 million units, up 9 percent from 3.07 million units in the previous fiscal year. ATV sales fell 18 percent from 125,000 units to 102,000 units.
Motorcycle production during the recently ended fiscal year totaled 3.39 million units, up 6.6 percent from 3.18 million units during the previous year. Suzuki plans to increase motorcycle production about 10.3 percent to 3.78 million units this year. The OEM's new "Medium Term Three-Year Plan (April 2008 to March 2011)" calls for worldwide motorcycle sales of 4.40 million units by 2010.
ATV production last year totaled 98,000 units, down 28 percent from 136,000 units in the previous fiscal year. ATV production this year is expected to fall to 87,000 units.
Suzuki produced about 20,000 ATVs in North America last, down 9 percent from 22,000 units in the previous fiscal year. The OEM expects ATV production in North America to stay stable to down one percent this year.
