The Suzuki KingQuad 400AS and FS return for 2010 with new 25-inch-diameter black wheels. Suzuki also says the ATVs’ racks and front bumper are more durable and scratch-resistant thanks to a new wrinkle-paint finish. The 400AS and FS will hit showrooms in green and red this summer, retailing for $5,799 and $5,699, respectively (compared to $5,499 and $5,349 last year).
The 400AS has an automatic transmission; the FS is semi-automatic. Both are four-wheel-drive. Suzuki says that with both models, a hi-low selectable sub-transmission helps riders traverse a variety of terrain. The machines also allow riders to select two-wheel or four-wheel drive operation quickly. A reportedly comfortable T-shaped seat lets them move around.
The overall length of the units is less than 82 inches, allowing them to fit into a 6.5-foot truck bed.
The front independent double-wishbone suspension offers 6.7 inches of wheel travel. The swing arm rear-suspension system has twin shock absorbers. The electric start comes with a backup recoil starter for emergencies.
One of owners’ favorite features, Suzuki says, is the KingQuads’ automotive-style DC power outlet on the front fender, used for plugging in auxiliary equipment. Winch installation is simple due to a winch-ready chassis and factory-installed flexible tube routing for wiring.
