Suzuki plants will open March 22 to finish current production

Suzuki in Japan will restart operations at its Takatsuka plant March 22 and 23 to finish the current motorcycle production line, according to Steve Bortolamedi, senior communications manager at American Suzuki Motor Corp.

Bortolamedi confirmed to Dealernews that Suzuki corporate will restart production for the two days next week to finish bikes already on the line, and then reevaluate the situation in Japan to determine operational initiatives going forward.

Bortolamedi earlier this week told Dealernews that no vehicle shortages in the U.S. have been predicted so far.

The OEM's manufacturing facilities are roughly 150 miles south of Tokyo and did not receive any direct effects from the March 11 earthquake and tsunami, Bortolamedi said. The facilities are complying with the rolling power blackouts across Japan in order to conserve energy, he noted.
