Suzuki is recalling certain 2009-2012 model year GSX-R1000 sportbikes to replace loose bolts on the side stand interlock switch, according to NHTSA.
The bolts may cause the switch to fail, which would terminate the ignition circuit. As a result, the engine would stop running, increasing the risk of a crash, the agency stated.
Dealers are being asked to replace the side stand interlock switch bolts free of charge. The recall, NHTSA No. 12V231000,(Suzuki recall campaign No. 2A29) affects 4,969 units. Although the recall initially states that 2009-2011 models are affected, the June 1 recall notice from NHTSA also includes the 2012 model year.
