TR Builds on Sport Sales

Tucker Rocky Distributing president Steve Johnson says increases in business in 2006 came largely from ATV parts and accessories and a boost in sportbike product offerings. For 2007, the company plans to expand those categories as well as a few others with 88 new suppliers.

Tucker Rocky ATV director Glen Urquhart tells Dealernews the distributor recently finished its sixth straight year of double-digit growth in the segment, and says part of the growth has come from Tucker Rocky's "slowly and quietly cultivating a crop of sport- and racing-type" ATV product suppliers such as A-arm specialist Laeger, suspension outfit Elka, springs maker Eibach, wheel suppliers Douglas Wheels and Hiper Wheels, and Pro Aluminum, maker of undercarriage protection.

How serious is Tucker Rocky about sport quads? The distributor recently became a primary sponsor of the Team Suzuki Yoshimura ATV race team.

Served by Tucker Rocky suppliers, Team Suzuki Yoshimura will be using products from MSR, ProTaper, Maxxis, BMC, Douglas Wheels, Afam, Galfer, Full Bore, Pro Aluminum, PowerMadd and Repsol, which is in its first foray into ATV racing.

Urquhart says the cool thing is that dealers will have access to nearly all of the same items.

As for utility product, Urquhart says the Quadboss SKU count will probably grow by 25 percent to 50 percent in the next six months. "We're looking at product right now," he says. "The Ducks Unlimited brand will definitely be expanded as well, but not as drastically as Quadboss."

Regarding sportbike offerings, names like Diamond Powersports, Freestyle Ingenuity, Gilles, Harris Performance Parts, Vortex, Hotbodies Racing, Rumble Concepts and Puig are sure to have something for everyone from sport-tourers to racers to the growing stunt and show crowds.

Other additions to Tucker Rocky's catalog in 2007 include foreign brands Micron, Repsol and Eibach.

Theses new products join returning locking system brands Kryptonite and OnGuard, batteries from MK Battery and Yuasa, filters from K&N and BMC, communications systems from Cardo Scala Rider and J&M Corp., and braking components from EBC, Galfer and Magura.
