Authorities in Ukiah, Calif., have arrested two men and are seeking a third in connection with a motorcycle shop burglary.
A silent alarm tipped Mendocino County Sheriff’s Deputies to suspicious activity at Motosports on North State Street just after 3 a.m. Saturday, according to a department statement. When deputies arrived, they saw three men fleeing the shop in a dark-colored van.
They tried to pull the van over, but the driver turned on to Highway 101. Shortly thereafter he parked the van and fled with the other two.
Deputies captured Rudolfo Mejia, 23, and Luiz Martinez'Gill, 18, both listed as transients from Southern California. A third man eluded capture. Working with Highway Patrol officers, they secured the van and found 10 new generators inside.
Mejia and Martinez’Gill were arrested and booked into the Mendocino County Jail on charges of burglary, felony evading arrest and resisting a police officer. Their bail is set at $15,000 each, and immigration holds were placed on them until their status is determined.
Deputies continue to investigate the incident, as this is the third time in the past three years a felony theft of generators has occurred at Motosports, said Capt. Kurt Smallcomb.
