A Utah legislative committee is promoting a bill that would pay motorcycle and ATV riders for wearing helmets.
If it passes, riders who get pulled over for moving violations would get an $8 break on the ticket if they are wearing helmets at the time of the stop.
"So what the message to the rider is, ‘yeah, you did something wrong, but because you were being safe and wearing a helmet, you get ($8) off your fine,’" Rep. Ronda Rudd Menlove, R-Garland, told the Deseret News.
HB93 is heading for the state’s lower house after the House Transportation Committee passed the plan unanimously Friday afternoon.
