Utah County commissioners, the state and the U.S. Bureau of Land Management have signed an agreement to permit a motocross track just west of Payson, Utah, near Provo.
Also parties to the deal are Payson and Rocky Mountain ATV, which was a driving force behind the track plan. The company has committed to bringing in a well-known national track builder to design the facility, according to the Deseret News.
Environmental impact and wildlife studies are under way. says Rocky Mountain ATV owner and founder Dan Thomas, and he hopes to break ground on the project in July or August.
The track will be about a mile long, with about seven miles of off-road trails inside a fenced course. The facility will be available for club rentals.
Thomas says the new track will be in a basin by a landfill, away from homes. Eventually he wants a 26-mile ATV trail around West Mountain.
