Van Scoten seeking to sell Sumax

ORISKANY, N.Y. -- Kirk Van Scoten is seeking a buyer for Sumax, the company he founded, after 30 years in business.

Van Scoten, who is looking to retire, is asking $780,000 for the name, an 11,000 sq. ft. building and the equipment and tooling in it. Van Scoten will stay with the company for a while to help with a smooth transition.

Sumax designs and distributes Taylor spark plug wires and battery cables, and makes a variety of fiberglass accessories, including saddlebags and fenders. The company also offers powder coating and subcontracts for many other industry companies as well.

Sumax products are distributed by Drag Specialities, Biker's Choice, Mid USA, Tedd Cycle and TEC in the U.S.. European distributors include Zodiac, Motorcycle Storehouse, and Custom Chrome Europe. Parts Max distributes their products throughout Asia.
