TARANTO, Italy - Nowhere is stopping power more vital than aboard an aircraft carrier. That may be why Pirelli chose a carrier for the braking test of its new Angel GT tires, conducted by racing star Maxi Biaggi.

Biaggi, a six-time World Champion and reigning World Superbike Champion, tested the tires on the flight deck of the Italian Navy’s aircraft carrier Cavour, anchored in the new Taranto naval base. He accelerated to 100 kph (about 62 mph) before slamming on the brakes at a pre-established braking spot.

According to Pirelli, the Angel GT tires allowed Biaggi “to unleash the bike’s full horsepower before ensuring an immediate stop on wet asphalt.”

Pirelli developed Angel GT sport touring tires for naked, super sport and touring bikes.

Pirelli arranged the test with the cooperation of Difesa Servizi SpA and the Italian Navy, which made the flight deck of the Cavour available.
