A custom shop in Arrington, Va., sustained damage in a fire of unknown origin Saturday night.
More than 40 firefighters responded to calls reporting a dump bin on fire behind the building at California Sidecar, off U.S. 29, Ray Uttaro, Nelson County emergency services director, told the Daily Progress. The fire damaged the custom shop at the rear of the building, where paints and fiberglass were stored.
“They make custom bikes. That’s where the fire was contained to,” he says. Most of the building was saved, although it sustained “quite a bit of damage from water, smoke and fire.”
The county Sheriff’s Office on Sunday asked the Virginia State Police to investigate whether arson was involved in the blaze. One firefighter suffered minor injuries in the firefight.
