PALATINE, Ill. - It ain’t easy to tailgate with a motorcycle, but that won’t stop determined grillers at this year’s Sturgis rally.
Harley-Davidson has partnered with barbecue icon Weber-Stephen Products for a burger competition that invites grillers to submit their best burger recipe for a chance to compete for the title of Weber's Big Burger Battle Champion Aug. 3 at the Sturgis motorcycle rally.
As Harley-Davidson's Official Grill Partner for 2014, Weber Grills will stage the Big Burger Battle Championship during the rally. The new Weber Mobile Grill Academy will be on site to give consumers a first-hand look at Weber's grills and accessories, and Weber will also host three hands-on grilling classes for HOG members Aug. 6.
Weber's Big Burger Battle challenges anyone, age 18 or older, to submit a recipe, along with a photo of the plated creation, at weber.com/contests/big-burger-battle through June 23.
Three finalists will be hand-picked by Jamie Purviance, author of the new Weber's Big Book of Burgers. Purviance is a national grilling expert, a New York Times best selling cookbook author and James Beard Award nominee. "I've written and tested hundreds of burger recipes, so I'm anxious to see what twists and spins people will put on their burgers that will make them stand out from the pack," he said.
The grand prize package includes a trophy and more than $5,000 in prizes, including a top-of-the line Weber Summit S-670 gas grill, grilling accessories, the new Weber's Big Book of Burgers, and a $500 Harley-Davidson gift card. The three finalists will receive all-expense paid trips to the 74th annual Sturgis Motorcycle rally to compete in the Big Burger Battle.
