CYPRESS, Calif. - The 2014 YFZ450R sport ATV features improved handling and more power compared to the previous year’s model, Yamaha announced.

The model also receives Yamaha’s “Assembled in the USA” logo as it’s now being produced in Newnan, Ga, for worldwide distribution. Availability is slated for August with an MSRP of $8,599.

The YFZ450R will be available in Team Yamaha Blue/White and a new Blaze Orange as a second color option. A Special Edition in Crimson Red/Black graphics with a dealer-installed GYTR black front grab bar will have an MSRP of $8,949.

Power is provided by a quick-revving 449cc fuel-injected engine attached to a cast aluminum-steel chassis.

New on the 2014 YFZ is the industry’s first assist and slipper clutch on a stock Sport ATV. According to Yamaha, his technology reduces clutch lever effort by about 25 percent and increases clutch plate pressure for positive engagement. The technology also reduces the engine braking effect, allowing for faster cornering — particularly when downshifting — and allowing the suspension to absorb bumps better during braking. The combined result is less rider fatigue, Yamaha said.

For more power, the 2014 YFZ450R’s engine uses titanium five-valve cylinder head technology with new cam profiles and a newly designed exhaust system that “delivers abundant power from the midrange to the top end and provides more hit feeling right off the bottom.”

Yamaha’s fuel injection features a 42 mm Mikuni throttle body and 12-hole injector. The system also includes Idle Speed Control (ISC) for start-up and warming. (Continued.)
