Yamaha Seeks to Reduce Workforce

Yamaha Motor Corp., USA has asked for 100 of its approximately 1,000 employees nationwide to take voluntary early retirement in a move "to ensure the company's health and competitive ability during these difficult times."

The OEM says some layoffs may be necessary if the company is unable to reduce its workforce enough by February through voluntary retirements, attrition and other measures.

Founded in 1977, Yamaha Motor Corp. USA is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Japan-based Yamaha Motor Co. Ltd.

About 475 Yamaha employees are based at the company's headquarters in Cypress, Calif. The OEM also has operations in Kennesaw and Newnan, Ga.
