Central Texas H-D hosted an an event to benefit the daughters of a fallen officer from the Austin Police Department.
The event was held at the dealership, on a Saturday, and lasted 12 hours. The event was open to the community and drew more than 3,000 people from the community throughout the day. Food and beverages were donated from numerous businesses, and were available all day, for a small donation. Numerous items were available via a silent auction, including a $700 helmet and two rifles, donated from a local gun shop. We had petting zoos and bounce houses for the children. Live bands performed from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. with only short breaks in between. One, of which, included actor/singer Dennis Quaid.
The local blood bank sent out their mobile unit on this day as well, and it was able to host one of its largest collection days due to the number of attendees. We feel, by hosting this event, a very strong bond was built within the community as a whole. It allowed for all of us to come together for an unfortunate, but worthy cause. In the end, through our efforts, we were able to raise over $25,000 for the daughters of the fallen officer. To continue this in the future, we plan on hosting an annual event to benefit the families of fallen officers, in the Central Texas area.
