MANCOS, CO – One of the few BMW motorcycle mechanics in southwestern Colorado is ready to sell his shop, Basin Motorcycle Works.
Harry Hill, 70, bought his first BMW motorcycle in 1969 and became a mechanic about a year later. He opened up his shop in 2006 in Durango, CO, and moved it in 2009 to Mancos. He provided service and, on occasion, restoration.
Health issues, however, are prompting the decision to retire. “His wife, Kathleen, would like him to stop working around solvents and gasoline fumes,” reported Stephanie Alderton at The Journal.
“Hill sent an email to his customers on July 6, announcing that he was starting to advertise for someone to take over the shop. Even though he doesn’t want to operate it anymore, he said he also doesn’t want it to vanish,” Alderton added.
“There are a lot of people in the Four Corners area who own BMWs and wouldn’t own BMWs if this wasn’t here,” he said.
