American Flat Track has named Jeff Stanton as the Grand Marshal for the Progressive Black Hills Half-Mile presented by Saddlemen at Black Hills Speedway in Rapid City, South Dakota, on Saturday, August 6. Although the 6-time Supercross/Motocross champ never raced flat track, he did follow the sport closely. “I love dirt track racing. I've loved it for years. One of my good buddies is Scottie Parker, and we've been friends since we were both racing and winning championships the same years. He followed me and I followed him. Every weekend I had off I'd go watch the races. It's just a down-to-earth group of guys who love racing motorcycles. At the end of the day, we all have the same passion."
Stanton was inducted into the Motorcycle Hall of Fame in 2000 and was awarded the Mickey Thompson Award of Excellence of 2008, but believes the real legacy is still being actively involved. “It's an honor to be a part of this,” said Stanton. In addition to being named Grand Marshal of the Black Hills Half Mile, the 6X Supercross/Motocross champ will be doing double duty at the Triumph demo area during the Sturgis Rally. Stanton will be guiding ADV riders through a newly developed off-road training arena in a private and exclusive extension of the Buffalo Chip. Stanton will personally offer introductory training sessions on Triumph Tiger motorcycles with the focus on off-pavement motorcycle control. The training leans into techniques learned from his storied career that features six championships and an AMA Hall of Fame induction. All 1-hour sessions depart from the Triumph demo truck at the CrossRoads from Sunday, Aug. 7 to Wednesday, Aug. 10.
