Independence Day, Christmas, Halloween… you know those dates by heart. Now you've got a new one to remember — the National Powersports Dealer Association’s birthday. “Although we got things going in 2020, the official birth date is May 24, 2021,” notes Kim Harrison, NPDA founding board member and Secretary/Treasurer for the Association.
In less than one year, dealers came together to create a board, elect officers, file for 501(c) status, craft vision and mission statements, build up a war chest, sign strategic partners and assemble nearly 200 dues paying dealer members. However, Harrison notes NPDA is just getting started. “We have just brought in our first Team member, Organizational Director Darris Blackford.”
Blackford has followed a multi-faceted career path; Newspaper reporter, communications business owner, powersport dealer marketing expert, and large-scale event director. His passions are writing, riding and running. “Given his passions and professionalism, the Board believes Darris is well-suited for getting the word out, understanding the message, and having the energy to help push the NPDA to the next level.”
Immediate plans call for a series of regional Meet & Greets. “We will be setting up gatherings nationwide for members and prospects to gather for in-person discussions, seminars, socialize and provide feedback on issues of importance.” The ultimate goal is to host a National NPDA Summit. “This remains a priority, and work is under way to find a suitable location and dates that will work,” she explains. “Stay tuned!”
