OFF-ROAD EXPO/SAND SPORTS SUPER SHOW CUT OFF MID-STREAM

First the Sand Sports Super Show was uprooted from its home in Costa Mesa after the past 21 years and then it was flat out cut off in the middle of the opening day at WestWorld in Arizona. Initially there was a message up at the websites warning attendees the show had been cancelled, but now that message is gone and it would appear to be forgotten… except by the vendors and the hundreds of angry posts on the Off-Road Expo and Sand Sports Super Show social media sites:

This is the message Dealernews received (along with everyone else) fortunately we were only 3 hours into the 6 hour drive and turned around:

“We have just been informed by the City of Scottsdale that due to noncompliance with COVID restrictions the City and the venue will not allow the event to proceed tomorrow.  We are clearly disappointed in this news and have tried everything we can to persuade them to change their decision.

“For those who purchased tickets online that were not scanned by our ticket takers, we will be issuing you a refund.

“The overwhelming interest in our event is clear evidence that this show is one that our audience of passionate enthusiasts wanted to take place. We are grateful for your continued support of our industry. We look forward to the opportunity in the near future to welcome you to the event that you deserve.”

This was just the latest turn of the screw for the embattled Bonnier Events group. First the powersports portfolio, including Cycle World and UTV Driver was sold to Octane, then the show side unraveled. “After careful consideration, Bonnier Events will not be able to host the scheduled motorcycle events for 2020. Previously scheduled 2020 motorcycle events including: Adventure Rally & Camp, Built to Ride Tour and HighPipe Motorcycle Festival are suspended. The current realities of COVID-19 and the uncertainty with the ability to operate have proven to be too difficult to overcome.”
